The clients of Laurie A. Malone, J.D., benefit from her distinctive combination of legal knowledge and experience with business and family issues.
As an Attorney, Laurie has represented litigants in Domestic Relations Court and Juvenile Court. Working concurrently as an attorney and mediator, Laurie came to the realization that most family issues can be managed more effectively through mediation. As a result, Laurie now focuses her efforts completely as a Mediator, Parenting Coordinator, and Guardian ad Litem in Domestic Relations Court.
As a Mediator, Laurie mediates divorce, custody, family, employment, and business disputes. Laurie has mediated over 500 cases. This includes court-ordered parenting cases for Cuyahoga County Juvenile court and employment disputes for the United States Postal Service.
Laurie works as a Parenting Coordinator with the most challenging or persistent cases of parental conflict that have been unresolved through litigation. While Laurie ultimately has decision-making and arbitration authority on most issues, she first utilizes her mediation capabilities to guide parents to their own decisions and to enhance their parenting, communication, and conflict management skills. As a Parenting Coordinator, Lauries ideal goal is to empower parents with the knowledge and skills to resolve future conflicts independently. Laurie received special training for this role.
Also a court-appointed Guardian ad Litem for the Domestic Relations Court, Laurie represents and advocates the best interests of children in custody and visitation disputes. Acting as Guardian ad Litem, Laurie investigates family conflicts and makes recommendations to the court regarding parental rights and responsibilities that benefit the children involved.
Laurie provides seminars and presentations to meet the needs of businesses, organizations, and civic groups on the topics of mediation, negotiation, and effective communication skills.
Before embarking on her legal career, Laurie has also worked as a Fortune 500 salesperson, selling to both large and small companies, which provided her with a multi-faceted understanding of business and financial issues.
